Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Sainty Mary Women's Flag Football team hosted the Bakers Wildcats for a conference matchup on Saturday, resulting in a 26-8 loss. The Spires are now 2-7 overall and 1-7 in the KCAC.
The Wildcats opened the games with fireworks, scoring on the first play from scrimmage for an early 7-0 lead. The Wildcats built their lead over the Spires, scoring two more unanswered touchdowns in the first half, heading into the break up 19-0 on Saint Mary.
The Spires put together a 10-plus-minute drive to open the third quarter that ended with Cheyenne Brooks hitting Sade Ervin for a touchdown pass, making it a 19-8 ballgame. However, turnovers and stalled drives restricted the Saint Mary offense, which was held scoreless for the rest of the contest.
