Lamoni, Iowa- The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team traveled to play the Graceland Yellowjackets on Wednesday, resulting in a 1-0 loss. The Spires are now 0-2 overall on the year.
Saint Mary opened the game with continued pressure on Graceland with shots from Kate Erpelding and Josie Hallier. The Spires had another stretch of offensive chances at the thirty-minute mark, but no attempts found the back of the net. As time wound down in the first half, Marisol Vargas had a save to keep the game scoreless.
Erin Walden nearly got Saint Mary on the board after slicing through the Yellowjacket's defense but was unable to get the ball past the Graceland goalie. Just before the 70-minute mark, the Yellowjackets pulled in front of the Spires with a goal to make it 1-0. As time ran out, Saint Mary pressed hard to tie the game at one apiece but to no avail and lost 1-0.
