Newton, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Flag Football team traveled to take on Bethel College, resulting in a 22-0 win. The Spires are now 1-8 overall and in the KCAC.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter after multiple goal-line stands and turnovers. The second Saint Mary drive ended with an untimely interception and gave Bethel promising field position.
The Spires were able to hold the Threshers to keep the game tied at zero. On the ensuing drive, USM was stopped on fourth down just two yards away from the endzone.
Saint Mary opened the scoring in the second quarter, going 41 yards in under three minutes. Anayah Hooks found Elle Campbell in the endzone for a 23-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0 in favor of the Spires.
The 7-0 score held after halftime and throughout the third quarter, interceptions by Shannon Cooley and Demi Hylton helped keep the Threshers at bay.
Hook had two receiving touchdowns in the fourth quarter to help lead the Spires to a 22-0 victory over Bethel.
