Spires Beat Swedes 3-0

Leavenworth, Kan.– The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team took on Bethany College on Saturday, winning 3-0. The Spire's overall record is now 5-2-4 and 5-0-3 in conference play.

The Spires began the game with multiple opportunities to score, including a shot by Abbie Rodgers that went wide right and a header by Jaidyn Yingling that resulted in a save for the Swedes. The rest of the half featured stout defensive play by both sides, leading to a halftime score of 0-0.

Saint Mary then came alive in the second half with an offensive explosion. Just three minutes into the half, Katy St. Martin scored from 10 yards out, off the assist from Yingling, to give the Spires the 1-0 lead. One minute later, Erin Walden assisted Nanako Hallier with another goal to extend the Saint Mary lead. With Bethany on the offensive, the Spire defense remained composed. In the 67th minute, Diana Aguilar found the back of the net on a cross from Nanako Hallier to seal the 3-0 victory. Marisol Vargas recorded two saves on the day.
