Spires Season Comes to a Close after 2-0 Loss to Southwestern

Winfield, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team played Southwestern College Friday night in the first round of the KCAC tournament, resulting in a 0-2 loss. The Spire's finished the season with an overall record of 6-11-1 and 6-6-1 in conference play.

The game started fast for Southwestern as they got on the board within the first twenty minutes of play. The Builders continued to take shots that never found the back of the net, thanks to Maea Ploetz in goal. Saint Mary struggled to produce any offensive chances as the Spires went into halftime down 0-1.

Right after halftime started, the Builders extended their lead to 2-0. The Spires had a chance to get on the board in the seventy-fourth minute with a corner kick by Katy St. Martin, but Saint Mary was unable to capitalize. As time dwindled, the Spires continued to try and get on the board but were unable to score, as the game ended 2-0 in favor of the Builders.
