LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team lost a close battle, 2-0 with Friends University Wednesday night at Berkel Memorial Stadium.
The Spires are now 4-5-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the KCAC.
The Spires fell behind 1-0 late in the first half, as Friends was able to capitalize on one of their many shot attempts with just over four minutes left in the first period. Friends would lead at 1-0 at halftime.
The Falcons came out of the gate within the first five minutes of the second half and added a second goal to take a 2-0 lead. Morgan Young would take the first shot of the game with 38 minutes left in the second half, but the Falcons saved it.
Eight minutes later the Spires had another opportunity at a goal chance as Emily Wilson took a shot, but it was also saved. Friends would hold on in the end for the win at 2-0.
Four different players took one shot each in Young, Wilson, Ana Maria Suarez and Megan McMillen. Lauryn Airy made seven saves in goal.
