Women's Soccer Shutout By Southwestern Wednesday

WINFIELD, KAN. – The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team was shut out on the road Wednesday night 2-0 against a tough, undefeated in conference Southwestern College team.

The Spires are now 3-4-2 on the season, and 1-2-2 KCAC.

Southwestern came out firing early as they took 13 shots in the first half, but were denied a goal by the defense from Saint Mary. The game was scoreless going into halftime.

In the second half, Southwestern would get on the board to go up 1-0. Angela Fiorentino would give the offense a spark as she took the first shot, but was unable to get it passed the goalie. Hannah Day followed with a shot of her own, but once again the goalie denied the goal for the Spires.

Moments later, Southwestern would expand the lead to 2-0 with 30 minutes left in the game. Despite the effort, Saint Mary was unable to come back and lost on the road.

Emily Wilson, Anna Soetaert, Brittany Ortiz, Day, and Fiorentino each had one shot in the game. Lauryn Airy led the team with seven saves in goal.

Next up, the Spires return home to Berkel Memorial Stadium this Saturday to take on Tabor College. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
