Conan Salanoa became USM’s head volleyball coach in 2010. Salanoa was born and raised in Aiea, Hawaii. He earned his bachelor’s in elementary education from Graceland University, and his master’s in curriculum and instruction from the University of Missouri.
Salanoa came to USM from UMKC’s volleyball program, where he served as assistant coach and defensive coordinator and led the team to numerous accolades. During his time as there, UMKC posted a record in conference wins and earned its first post-season birth in six years.
At the club level, teams Salanoa coached qualified every year for national play and twice finished in the top 25. A number of his players also earned athletic scholarships.
Salanoa’s volleyball career also includes one year at the helm of St. Pius X High School’s team, and several years as a player at Graceland.
At UMKC:
- Spent one season as defensive coordinator/assistant coach
- Helped team to numerous accolades in one year
- 2nd best record in school history
- Digs per game went from 180th in nation to 24th
- Blocks per game went from 181st in nation to 42nd
- Two 2nd team all conference players
- Record for most conference wins
- 1st post season appearance in 6 years
- Best home winning percentage
