USM Soccer

The University of Saint Mary Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams welcomed back their alumni for the university’s annual alumni soccer game Saturday, Aug. 28, at USM’s Football/Soccer Complex.
After a hard-fought afternoon, the USM women defeated the alumni 3-1. The USM men also prevailed against their alumni 5-3.
Coach Derek Mazeitis was pleased with the turnout from the alumni and hopes to see even more former Spires take the field next year.
“It is a really special event for our alumni to come back and see where our programs are headed,” Coach Mazeitis said. “It also helps our current student-athletes prepare them for the upcoming season.”
The USM Spires Soccer Teams play in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) and are associated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, Division II.
Under Coach Derek Mazeitis, the men’s and women’s soccer teams have earned berths into regional play. Also, a number of players on both squads have been honored with all-conference recognition and all-regional awards. Several women’s players have also been honored as academic All-Americans and the women’s program has been named an NAIA scholar team.
Both squads play at USM’s brand new soccer field, which boasts a scoreboard, fully-wired press box and seat for up to 1,000 screaming fans.
The soccer season begins in late August and concludes in early November. Watch this space for the latest on USM Soccer.
