Welcome to the University of Saint Mary’s Sports Medicine Department. Our staff is here to provide injury prevention, evaluation, care, and rehabilitation for our student athletes.
At USM, athletic training is practiced by two certified athletic trainers, health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.
The University of Saint Mary Athletics Department has two full-time NATA certified athletic trainers on staff. The two ATC’s focus on physical wellness, but also care about the emotional, intellectual, and spiritual health of our student-athletes.
We collaborate with the Sports Medicine Professionals at Ortho KC at Providence Medical Center, in partnership with the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System. They are an essential part of our sports medicine program, and provide on-site weekly visits for our student athletes and provide Orthopedic/Sports Medicine Physician coverage for our home football games. Rehabilitation services that cannot be handled on campus will be provided by the outpatient rehabilitation department of Providence Medical Center.
