The Saint Mary volleyball team improved their record to 11-10 on the season with a four set victory over College of Saint Mary on Monday night. It is the fifth win in the last seven games for the Spires.

Saint Mary would get out to a slow start in the match as they fell behind 9-6 but rallied to take the lead 20-18 later in the first set. The Spires would not hold the lead, however. The Flames rebounded to outscore the Spires 7-3 to close the set and take the early lead.

In the second set, Saint Mary jumped out to a 10-6 lead, but the Flames fought back once again and the set was pushed to extra points before the Spires pulled out the 29-27 win to even the match.

The Spires kept the momentum going into the third set pushing out to a 15-9 lead before hanging on for the 25-22 victory. In the fourth set, Saint Mary sealed the match with a dominating 25-15 win.

Kaitlynn Lanier posted her season high in kills with 18 in the match. Maleka Benjamin and Bianca Asheim each had double digit kill totals as well with 11 and 10 respectively. Whitney Rock finished just two shy of her season high in assists with 47.

Katy Koepke led the defense with 28 digs. Alyssa Chung added 13. Benjamin, Lanier, and Asheim each had a solo block and two block assists as well.

Saint Mary is back in action at the KCAC Mid-Season Tournament in Hutchison, KS on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Spires take on McPherson and Ottawa at 1pm and 8pm. Saturday, Saint Mary will play Tabor and Kansas Wesleyan at 11am and 8pm.
