Women's Cross Country - Mon, Oct. 9, 2017

The Saint Mary women's cross country team earned their first trophy of 2017 with a runner-up finish at the Fort Hays State Open in the Black Division on Saturday. The Black Division was made up of NAIA and NJCAA teams. The Spires topped all NAIA and KCAC schools competing at the meet.

The second place finish put the Spires ahead of Friends who was the previous #1 team in the KCAC and had received votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll. The Spires topped the Falcons by two points. Other KCAC teams that Saint Mary topped included Southwestern, Sterling and McPherson. The Spires were second to only NJCAA oppponent Colby County Community College.

Lorena Moreno led the Spires once again as she finshed fourth overall. Moreno ran a time of 19:09. Kristina Silvers gave the Spires two runners finishing in the top 10 as she finished 10th overall in a time of 19:54. Saint Mary placed seven runners in the top 50 at the 5k race.

Divina De Leon finished 23rd at 20:23. Kaitlynn Tuey and Mariah Stein ran together and finished 27th and 28th respectively with times of 20:28 and 20:29. Krystal Rivera was 34th at 20:43. Brittany White-Dold finished 47th running 21:01. A complete list of runners and results can be found here.

The Spires will be back in action in two weeks at the NAIA Seminole Valley meet in Mount Mercy, IA on October 21.
