The Saint Mary volleyball team took a three set loss at Sterling on Wednesday night. The loss snaps the Spires three game winning streak and drops their record to 9-9 on the season and 6-5 in KCAC play.

Saint Mary would start slow as Sterling jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set. The Spires fought back to pull the deficit down to just two points but Sterling would pull back away for a 25-18 win. The Spires would be deadlocked at 11-11 with the Warriors halfway through the second set, but Sterling again pulled away for a 25-21 final. The third set went to extra points, but Saint Mary would fall 26-24.

Maleka Benjamin had the team high in kills with nine. Whitney Rock posted 20 assists. Katy Koepke led in digs with 15. Kaitlynn Lanier had two block assists and Benjamin added one solo block.

The volleyball team will look to get back on the winning track when they head to York, NE for two matches on Saturday. The first match will be a KCAC matchup with York at 2pm. The Spires will then take on Dakota Wesleyan in a non-conference matchup at 4pm. Both games will be played at York College.
