The Saint Mary volleyball team won their third straight match on Monday taking a straight set victory over Southwestern. The Spires are now 9-8 on the season and 6-4 in KCAC play. They now sit in fifth place in the KCAC Standings only a half game back of fourth place McPherson.

The first set saw the teams go back and forth to a 10-10 tie through the first half of the set. Saint Mary would pull away with an 8-2 run and eventually took the set 25-17. The Spires ran out to a 12-4 lead in the second set before claiming another 25-17 victory. Saint Mary led 24-21 in the third set before Southwestern rallied to force extra points, but the Spires would hold on for a 27-25 win to seal the match.

Maleka Benjamin matched her season high with 12 kills to lead the Spires. Kaitlynn Lanier finished with nine kills and Angela Wade added eight. Brittani Pascua led the Spires in assists for the second straight game with 27 in the match. Katy Koepke paced the defense with 23 digs. Pascua pulled out 17 digs and Marissa Martin finished with 10.

Saint Mary will be back in action on Wednesday at Sterling. The match will begin at 7pm. Sterling is 8-9 on the season and 3-6 in KCAC play.
