The Saint Mary volleyball team won their fourth straight match, holding off McPherson for a five set victory on Wednesday night in the Ryan Sports Center. The four straight victories comes on the heels of an 0-4 start at the Missouri Valley tournament. The Spires are now 4-4 on the season.

Saint Mary jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set and never looked back, taking the set 25-18. McPherson would lead 21-17 in the second set before the Spires rallied with four straight points to tie the set. Saint Mary eventually took the set 26-24.

The second set victory proved to be crucial as McPherson took the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-14. The Spires regained their stride in the fifth set. Holding an 11-10 lead, Saint Mary scored four straight points to close out the match.

Kaitlynn Lanier led the attack with 16 kills for the Spires, her season high. Raegan Barrows and Savannah Fillion each had nine kills. Maleka Benjamin added eight. Whitney Rock finished with 39 assists. Rock also led Saint Mary in digs with 12. Adeline Pagan-Sanchez had 10 digs.

The volleyball team is back in action next week on September 13 when they travel to Ottawa, KS where they will take on (RV) Ottawa.
