LEAVENWORTH – The University of Saint Mary continued the progress it made from the 2016-2017 season(s) where USM men finished as the 11th Best Combined (XC&TF) Program in NAIA and the USM women finished just inside the Top-25, as the 21st Best Combined (XC&TF) Program in NAIA. The 2016-2017 final rankings were the highest ever for the University of Saint Mary men and women.

On the men's side, the KCAC Cross Country Champions and Indoor/Outdoor Track and Field Runner-ups brought in a combined nineteen student-athletes this fall. Of those nineteen newcomers, four are transfers from Junior College(s). USM welcomes transfers Phillip Lagemann (Allen County CC), Trayton Brooks (Iowa Central CC), Onaja Robinson (Montgomery College) and Aladdin Abuhadba (Cerritos College). Other newcomers to the University of Saint Mary XCTF Men's Program include regional recruits such as Jonathan Bowen (Wakefield High School, KS), Luke Skinner (South Grey High School, KS), Eric Vasquez (Great Bend High School, KS), James Day (Kearney Senior High School, MO), Tristen Foster (Lamar High School, MO), and Benedict Horvatic (Atchinson High School, KS). The rest of the incoming 2017 class comes together from outside the region with Brendan Erwin (Armijo High School, CA), Anterrion McClain (White Station High School, TN), Terrill Andrews and Zarrion Hill (Lakes High School, WA), Rodney Parks (El Dorado High School, TX), Patrick Swanson (Atascocita, TX), Darion Allen (Barlett High School, TN), Stephon Minix (Murrieta Mesa High School, CA), and Trenton Guidry (Hathaway High School, LA).

2017 USMXCTF Men's Recruiting Class Highlights:

Phillip Lagemann – Mile – 3rd Place at NJCAA Indoor Championships

Luke Skinner – 800m – 2nd fastest time in Kansas (1:55.15 FAT)

Brandon Erwin – 1600m – 4:26.12 FAT

Eric Vasquez – 4x800m – 5A State Runner-up (8:07.35)

Anterreon McClain – 100m –10.75 FAT; Triple Jump – 13.31m (43' 8")

Terrill Andrews – 400m – 49.60 FAT; 200m – 22.05 FAT

Zarrion Hill – 300H – 3rd fastest in Washington (39.03); 100m – 5th fastest in Washington (10.74 FAT)

Patrick Swanson – 400m – 49.63 FAT

Darion Allen – 110H – 15.22 FAT; 300H – 40.05 FAT

On the women's side, the KCAC Runner-ups in Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor track brought in a combined ten student-athletes to join the USMXCTF program this fall. The total of twenty-nine incoming student-athletes is USMXCTF's largest recruiting class to date. Nearly half of the newcomers to the USMTF women's program are transfers and all of them are transferring from the state of Kansas. Those athletes are Vicky Ibarra and Kristina Silvers (Allen County CC, KS), Divina De Leon (Pratt CC, KS), and Cassie Helena (Benedictine College, KS). Other incoming student-athletes for the USMXCTF women's program include Amber Crook (Greenwood High School, AR), Mariah Stein (Great Bend High School, KS), Saige-Croix Alvarado (Mayde Creek High School, TX), Courtney Mann (La Quinta High School, CA), Natasha Webster (Bonners Ferry High School, ID) and Megan McMillen (John F. Kennedy High School, CA).
