Cross Country - Mon, Jul. 17, 2017

The Men and Women's Cross Country teams release their 2017 season schedule.

Cross Country Releases 2017 Schedule

The Spires will first compete on a short course of 5k for the men and 2 miles for the women at Allen County Community College. Allen County has become a JuCo cross country powerhouse in recent years and will create great competition for the Spires. The Spires will next attend the 2017 John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, IN, which has been home to 10+ NCAA Division 1 Championships and is often referred to as CrossCountryTown, USA. Here, they will see competition from high level 4-year Universities and Colleges from NCAA Divisions 1, 2, and 3, as well as other NAIA Universities. These races will be the first of the year at championship distances of 8k for men and 5k for women. They will remain at these distances for the remainder of the season. Missouri Southern Stampede will be next for the spires. The Spires have found themselves on the podium at Missouri Southern State University 3 times in the last 4 years and will be looking to take home another trophy this year. The Spires will next send a non-top 7 team to compete at the Emporia State Invitational while the next weekend the top 7 will be attending the historic Oklahoma State Jamboree which will be broadcast live on Flotrack.com. The Oklahoma State University Jamboree will lead them into the home stretch of the season, which will start with the Fort Hays State Invitational. This meet will pit the Spires against several Top 10 NAIA and NCAA Division 2 Universities. Next on deck will be the NAIA Seminole Valley. This will be the first NAIA only meet of the year for the spires and their performances there will play a huge role in the final season rankings for the Spires, as it will be the last regular season meet of the year. Next is the KCAC Cross Country Conference Championships. The Spire Men will look to win their 5th straight KCAC Championship, with the Lady Spires aiming to qualify for the National Championship meet for the 3rd time in 4 years and looking to win their 2nd KCAC Championship. The last meet of the season will lie in the hands of the KCAC Championship meet and the final season rankings. The teams will need to either finish ranked Top 25 in the country or finish top 2 at the KCAC Conference Championships in order to qualify for the National Cross Country Championship meet in Vancouver, Washington. The Spires have had 7 team appearances at the National Meet between the men and women and will be aiming to make it appearances number 8 and 9.
