The Saint Mary softball team earned an opening round win but fell in the next two games at the KCAC Tournament this weekend. The Spires topped Friends 9-7 on day one and were two outs away from a win in the second round against Kansas Wesleyan before falline 5-4 in extra innings. Saint Mary was elimintated when they fell 2-0 to Oklahoma Wesleyan later in the day. The Spires finish the season 20-29. In conference play, Saint Mary finished 12-10 earning them in sixth place of the KCAC.

In the win against Friends, the Spires trailed 1-0 before scoring two runs in the third and three more in the fourth to lead 5-1. Saint Mary added four more runs for a 9-2 lead in the seventh. Friends put together a rally in the bottom of the inning scoring five runs, but Saint Mary would prevail for the 9-7 win. Saint Mary had nine runs on 11 hits. Alana Renshaw tripled and Carrie Lee doubled. Samantha Torres, Tycee Coplan, and Renshaw each had two hits. Nicole DeSimone and Renshaw each had two RBI.  

In the second game, Kayla Hackney sent a grand slam over the left field fence with one out in the top of the first inning. Kansas Wesleyan cut into the lead with two runs in the fourth and then tied the game with two more runs in the seventh. The Spires had one out with one runner on in the seventh, but could not hold the lead. Kansas Wesleyan would then win the game on a bases loaded pop up that turned into a sacrifice fly when the runner scored after the Spires made a diving catch in the eighth inning.

Oklahoma Wesleyan shut out the Spires in the final game. Saint Mary managed just two hits. One each from Torres and Coplan. Selena Ruiz and Lee combined to throw six strong innings. The duo combined for seven strikeouts and three walks. Lee did not allow a hit. The Spires could not get anything going and were elimnated from the tournament with a 2-0 loss.
