The Saint Mary men's lacrosse team closed the regular season with a hard fought win at (RV) Ottawa on Tuesday night. The Spires close the regular season with a 7-7 record. The win seals the #2 seed for the Spires in the KCAC Lacrosse Championships beginning Thursday.

Saint Mary will host the tournament at Charles J. Berkel Memorial Stadium.  They will face off in a rematch with Ottawa who is the #3 seed on Thursday at 7pm. The winner of the #2 Saint Mary v. #3 Ottawa game will take on the winner of the #1 Missouri Valley v. #4 Benedictine game in the KCAC Championship Game on Saturday.

The Spires would open the scoring in the first quarter, but the teams traded goals and were tied 2-2 headed into the second. Saint Mary then distanced themselves from Ottawa with a 4-2 advantage in the second quarter and took a two goal lead into halftime. The third quarter saw 12 total goals scored as each team scored six times. The Spires would not be denied outscoring Ottawa 3-2 in the fourth quarter and taking the 15-12 victory.

Mackinley Morgan scored five goals and had four assists giving him 44 goals and 36 assists on the season. Morgan leads Saint Mary in both categories. Billy Dineen scored three goals and had three assists. Matthew Waeckerle, Andrew Orr, and Cory Wunderlich each scored twice. Elliott Conklin, Drew Coleman, and Brandon Newman each had an assist.

Zander Smith earned the win in goal making eight saves. Brennon Hipsher dominated the face offs winning 22 of 28 tries. The Spires made 27 successful clears in 33 attempts. Saint Mary also out shot, had more ground balls, and were more successful in extra man opportunities in the win.
