The Saint Mary baseball team earned a three game sweep of McPherson this weekend to improve their KCAC record to 4-5 on the season. McPherson entered the weekend on a four game winning streak before coming to Leavenworth.

The first game of the series was a roller coaster of emotions. Saint Mary would jump out to a 3-0 lead with a run in the second and two more in the third. McPherson then scored eight times in the sixth inning, before the Spires answered with one more run in the bottom of the inning. A McPherson home run pushed their advantage to 9-4 in the top of the eighth, but Saint Mary scored six times in the bottom of the inning and eventually claimed the 10-9 victory.

Jordan Wilkerson hit a three run triple and Juan Gallardo hit a go ahead two run home run in the eighth to push the Spires to the win. Adam Stebbins finished three for five at the plate and stole a base. Jeremy Melvin was two for four and also stole a base. Gallardo and Wilkerson each had three RBI. Mike Amado started and pitched five innings allowing three runs, two earned. He struck out five and walked two. Ryan Bracamontes tossed two and two thirds innings in relief to earn the win, and Ryan Benson pitched the final two outs to secure the save.

Benson would head back out to the mound to start game two of the series. He went on to pitch a complete game while allowing just one run. McPherson scored first with a run in the first inning, but the Spires answered when Chase Kearney scored Stebbins with single to left in the bottom of the inning. Wilkerson led off with a single in the bottom of the fifth. McPherson would misplay the single and Wilkerson ended up at third. Stebbins followed with an RBI single. The Spires loaded the bases before Mel Robles hit an RBI infield single, and the Spires led 3-1 which would be the final score.

In the third game, Saint Mary jumped out to another lead with two runs in the first and one in the second. McPherson trimmed the deficit to one with two runs in the fourth. The Saint Mary offense kept rolling as the Spires went on to win the game 10-6. Stebbins had three more hits for the Spires to lead the offense. Wilkerson hit a three run home run and doubled. Sam Miller, Guillermo Loera, Gallardo and Melvin each had one hit. Zack Novis tossed a complete game allowing six runs (four earned) on 10 hits. He struck out five and walked just one.

Saint Mary will play Benedictine in a nine inning game on Tuesday at 3pm before returning to KCAC play this weekend with a three game series on Saturday and Sunday in Ottawa.
