The Saint Mary baseball team took a 7-6 loss to Missouri Valley at home on Wednesday. The Spires are now 3-19 on the season.  

Four pitchers threw in the game. Easton Barnes started and tossed two innings allowing just one run. Daulton East followed with three innings. He also allowed just one run. Ryan Bracamontes was charged with two runs, one earned, in two innings pitched. Alex Knight would close the game with two more innings. Knight allowed three runs, two earned. The pitching staff struck out six and walked three while allowing 14 htis in nine innings pitched.

Offensively, the Spires were stagnant until late. With the Spires trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the bats finally broke out. Richard Sanchez led off the inning with a double to left field. Jeremy Melvin reached on an error before Jordan Wilkerson grounded out. Mel Robles then plated two runs on an RBI single and advanced to second on the throw home. Guillermo Loera drove home Robles with a single to left, and Andrew Berry followed with another single. Isaias Pulido tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center.

In the top of the ninth, Missouri Valley would earn a lead off walk then sacrifice bunt to advance him to second. After a Missouri Valley strikeout, Saint Mary would drop a pop up on the infield to allow the go ahead run to score. The Spires would go in order in the bottom of the ninth and fall just short.

Saint Mary is back in action on Saturday and Sunday in a three game series against McPherson. Games begin at 1pm each day.
