Cheer and Dance - Mon, Feb. 13, 2017

The Saint Mary cheer and dance teams competed at the KCAC Cheer and Dance Invitational on Friday at Kansas Wesleyan University. The dance team was named conference runner-up with an overall score of 71.5. It is the second consecutive year the dance team earned conference runner-up. The cheer team placed sixth. Six schools competed at the event: Saint Mary, Sterling, Tabor, Bethel, Kansas Wesleyan, and Ottawa.

Sophomore Riley Smith was awarded the KCAC Character Medallion for exhibiting exemplary character and good academic standing this season. Head Coach Morgan Conrad was proud of here student-athlete saying, "Riley does a great job on the mat and really puts in a lot of hard work into everything she does. It's great to see that drive in everything she does."

The cheer team was awarded the 2017 Team of Character award, making it the second time the program has received the award. The first was in the 2014-2015 season.

"I'm super proud of the entire program. To bring home hardware is great, but to be named the Team of Character, that's the biggest accomplishment of all. My team works hard on the mat/floor but they work just as hard in the community. They performed great and they had fun.  We've got a lot of work to do for regionals and can't wait to get back into it."

The NAIA Regional Cheer and Dance Competition is Saturday, February 25th at St. Gregory's University.
